OUR PHILOSOPHY

Flora x Fauna was born from carefully curating and combining nature's elements to create an experience of luxury in its rawest form. The 'X' silently signifies the collaboration between these elements. It is a collection that truly nourishes your skin without depleting its natural barrier.
A brand initiated by a desire to offer women options that do not compromise the spa-like experience for purity and quality; in our world, these things go hand in hand. We want the skincare you choose for yourself and your tribe to resonate with you. If you’re aware that skincare has the potential to impact your whole being over time, we believe you'll connect with what we've created here.
Our collection is small-batch and handcrafted to be not only skin-safe but also whole-body and hormone-safe. Each item is formulated without toxic chemicals, fillers, fragrances, seed oils high in polyunsaturated fatty acids, or essential oils. We seek out small U.S. farms that practice regenerative and organic growing whenever possible. Certain ingredients, like our frankincense resin, are wildcrafted to be sourced as close to nature as possible. Careful sourcing is of the highest priority to us in order to uphold the sustainability and purity of our products for your skin.

If you're curious as to why we don't include essential oils in our formulas, stick with us. These oils are more formally referred to as volatile oils, which are composed of the volatile chemical compounds of plants. They are often considered a natural mainstay within the wellness sphere, but when you take a step back to examine what they are and how they work, they are more similar to the allopathic model.
Some studies show that certain essential oils can be endocrine-disrupting and may cause irritation, such as dermatitis, eczema, hives, or even burns in some cases. Sometimes, a product containing essential oils may be used for a period of time before any reaction is noticed.
To put the concentration and sustainability aspect in perspective: 1 lb of essential oil is equivalent to about 250 lbs of lavender. Not only is this extremely unsustainable to produce, but it is also of very high potency. The concentration of these isolated oils can be an assault on the skin, disrupting the skin’s natural barrier.
While all plants contain these volatile oils and they are present when used in their whole plant state, they are used in conjunction with the rest of the botanical in its natural form. This is in contrast to extracting this singular component of the plant, which is then bottled in a higher potency than you would ever come into contact with in nature. That is where problems can arise.

We use whole botanicals and infuse them into our products because they are gentle and effective, without the potential risks that come with essential oils. This way, each component of the plant can work synergistically, as they were intended. The oils and fats in the Flora x Fauna line are also low in polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs). This is by design, considering that high-PUFA oils, often referred to as seed oils, are cheap oils that are easily oxidized, causing free radical damage from both the heat of our skin and UV light. Instead, we use animal-based fats and other nourishing oils and fats that are low in polyunsaturated fatty acids, which helps prevent oxidation due to their stability.
Flora x Fauna is intentionally designed with the understanding that simplicity holds a deeply therapeutic effect. This simplicity lends itself to authenticity; it doesn’t get any cleaner than these ingredients.
Welcome to our world of rewilded beauty.
